Selfie Attendance adds an extra layer of verification to Mobile Based Attendance. When enabled, employees marking mobile attendance are asked to take a selfie at the time of the punch. The front camera activates automatically, performs a face detection with a blink check, and captures the punch only when both are successful.
This helps organizations confirm that a real person is physically present at the time of the punch, which is useful for field teams, remote workforces, and any setup where mobile attendance is used at scale.
This article is meant for administrators who want to enable Selfie Attendance for their organization.
When to Use Selfie Attendance
Selfie Attendance can be applied in a wide range of situations. The list below covers some common examples, and there are many more possibilities depending on how your organization operates.
- Field teams whose attendance is marked away from the office, and where physical presence at the time of punch needs to be confirmed.
- Multi location operations where the same mobile app is used across branches, and an additional verification helps reinforce genuine attendance.
- Compliance driven organizations where attendance records may need to be reviewed later, and having a selfie associated with each punch supports internal audits.
- Contract or temporary workforces where organizations want a lightweight verification check as part of the punch process.
- Organizations paired with Geo Fencing who already restrict punches to specific locations and want to add a person presence check on top.
How to Get Selfie Attendance Enabled
Selfie Attendance is enabled at the backend by the HRStop support team. There is no admin configuration required.
- Ensure Mobile Based Attendance is enabled for your organization.
- Send a request to support@hrstop.com with your Company Name and Subdomain.
- The support team will activate the feature for your organization.
- Once activated, Selfie Attendance automatically applies to all employees who use Mobile Based Attendance.
How Selfie Attendance Works for Employees
Once Selfie Attendance is active, the mobile punch process changes slightly for employees:
- When the employee taps the punch button in the HRStop mobile app, the front camera of the phone activates.
- The employee positions their face in the camera view.
- The app performs a face detection check to confirm a face is present, and asks the employee to blink for a liveness check.
- Once both checks are successful, the selfie is captured and the punch is recorded.
- The Geo Tagged coordinates continue to be captured with the punch, as with any mobile attendance.
If the checks fail (for example, the camera is blocked, the face is not detected, or the blink is not registered), the punch is not recorded. The employee must retry.
Where the Selfie is Visible
After a successful Selfie Attendance punch, the selfie is available alongside the punch record for the employee, their reporting manager, and HR or administrators.
For employees: Open the self service portal, go to the Attendance section, and navigate to the date of the punch. Each mobile punch shows a small image icon next to it. Hover over the icon to view the selfie.
For reporting managers, HR, and administrators: The same view is available for the employees each user has access to, based on their role and permissions. For detailed navigation, refer to the article on Set Up Mobile Based Attendance, which covers how mobile punches are viewed across roles.

Important Notes
- Selfie Attendance applies only to Mobile Based Attendance. It has no effect on Web Attendance or Biometric Attendance.
- If the camera is disabled, permission is denied, or the face detection or blink check fails, the punch is not recorded. The employee must complete the checks successfully for the attendance to be captured.
- Selfie Attendance and Geo Fencing work independently and can be enabled together. If both are active, a mobile punch is accepted only when the employee is within an allowed geographic boundary AND the selfie checks succeed.
- No admin configuration is required after activation. The feature applies automatically to all employees using Mobile Based Attendance.
